Our Commitment
Riverside FC is committed to creating a safe environment for all children and vulnerable adults who participate in our activities. This policy applies to all volunteers, coaches, staff, and officials connected with the club.
Key Principles
- The welfare of children and vulnerable adults is paramount
- All children and vulnerable adults have the right to protection from abuse
- All concerns and allegations will be taken seriously and responded to appropriately
Designated Safeguarding Officer
| Role | Name | Contact |
|---|---|---|
| Club Welfare Officer | Helen Richards | welfare@riversidefc.com |
| Deputy Welfare Officer | Paul Stewart | welfare@riversidefc.com |
If you have immediate concerns about a child's safety, contact the Police (999) or local authority safeguarding team first.
What is Abuse?
Abuse can take many forms:
- Physical abuse — hitting, shaking, throwing, burning, or otherwise causing physical harm
- Emotional abuse — persistent emotional ill-treatment, bullying, threatening behaviour
- Sexual abuse — involving children in sexual activities they don't understand or cannot consent to
- Neglect — persistent failure to meet a child's basic needs
Reporting Concerns
If you have concerns about a child or vulnerable adult:
- Don't delay — report concerns promptly
- Contact the Club Welfare Officer — welfare@riversidefc.com or 07700 900456
- Make notes — record what you've seen or been told, with dates
- Don't investigate — that's for trained professionals
If the concern is about the Welfare Officer, contact the County FA Safeguarding Team.
Safer Recruitment
All coaches and volunteers working with children must:
- Complete an enhanced DBS check
- Provide two references
- Complete safeguarding training
- Attend an interview
